Deborah McNamara is a mother and certified yoga teacher who has been on the path of spiritual unfolding for many years, having delved into the mystical Christian, Buddhist and Hindu traditions through both academic study as well as time practicing in monasteries and retreat centers in the US, Europe and India.  Deborah has been a long time student of Sofia Diaz, a widely recognized yoga teacher influenced by South Indian sacred temple dance, a tradition deeply honoring the profound heart strength of the feminine form. She received her Yoga Teacher Training certification from the Shambhava School of Classical Hatha Yoga in Colorado in 2004.   Deb's classes are nourishing and contemplative, offering space to deepen in your journey of embodying what you most love - and a sacred space to attend to your precious human body.  She also works for the Northwest Earth Institute (www.nwei.org), an Oregon based ecological non-profit promoting voluntary simplicity and sustainable lifestyle.  You can read Deborah's musings on motherhood and spiritual practice on her blog at www.unraveledword.wordpress.com and her website at www.heartstrengthyoga.com

Kia Ruiz
Kia has been practicing yoga for most of her adult life.  She is a certified yoga teacher who earned her Level I through the El Dorado Mountain Ashram and a Prenatal/Postnatal/Fertility certification under De West of Yoga Workshop.  Her teaching philosophy for her YoMama clients is to help guide them to that centered place of knowing and trust their intuition on their mothering journey.  She can get very left-brained in her tactics though with an academic background that includes getting to a PhDc in Biology from Florida International University prior to a car accident in 2006.  In her journey she has had to rebuild her body from that accident and expresses the need for a gentle, selfless mindfulness from an empirical place.  She is also new to her own mothering journey with the birth of her son in the summer of 2010.  Currently she is stepping away from ecology work to focus on parenthood with a part-time focus on body awareness, mindful consumerism, and green living through teaching, online and local start-up opportunities.

DOULAS:

Janel Ferrin, Yoga Teacher, Childbirth Educator and Doula.  Janel began teaching yoga on the shores of the Middle Fork of The Salmon in Idaho in 2001. She recieved her yoga teaching certificate here in Colorado.  She furthered her training at the Yoga Institute for Yoga and Ayurveda and recieved a certificate in Yoga Therapy.  As a yoga therapist Janel works with people to find balance in their lives to prevent/cure illness and disease and to optimize health.  She uses specific breathing, meditation, yoga postures, herbs, and food to accomplish this as a therapist.  Janel is also a Childbirth Educator and a doula with the Boulder Doula Circle.  She adores helping women while they flow into motherhood healthfully, lovingly, and empowered.  Janel encourages yoga students to be playful and inquisitive in class.   Yoga provides a wonderful opportunity to discover how capable we are to grow babies and take care of them.  As a mother of two she values community support and is delighted to help families find support in their own community here in Boulder.

Brittney Wilburn, Childbirth Educator and Doula: Brittney returned home to Colorado in the summer of '06 from Maine where she lived and worked after attending Bates College. She lives in Boulder with her husband, new son and golden retriever. Brittney is passionate about birth and supporting women and their partners without judgment and with unconditional support. With a Birthing From Within background, she encourages introspection, exploration and mindfulness to help you learn about birth and prepare for parenthood. She believes that there are many different paths to parenthood and together we will explore them. She’s excited to be part of the Boulder Doula Circle and the community of Yo Mama Yoga.

She has a B.S in Kinesiology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She has worked in a variety of settings including gyms, hospitals, and physical therapy offices. It is an exciting group to work with and it is extremely fulfilling to see them make it through pregnancy without the aches and pains that many women experience during this time. Abby finds it rewarding to be a small part of the whole process of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Aside from enjoying what she does, Abby has stayed up to date on the latest information by taking continuing education courses on prenatal and postpartum exercise and by following the guidelines given by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Helen Knight has been sharing the gift of Reiki with clients for over four years. She first experienced this powerful, healing energy to help alleviate severe back pain and to re-energize her after years of poor health due to being undetected as a Celiac. It was so effective she decided to spend 1 ½ years studying Reiki with one of the three Grand Reiki Masters of Australia, Glenys Crack. She was taught the original Reiki from Japan, the Usui system. After two years practicing in Alice Springs, Australia, Helen moved to Boulder to continue her Reiki and photography businesses.

Helen grew up on the East coast, graduated college in Spanish and Elementary Education and had a terrible case of the travel bug! She spent 17 years abroad in Spain, The Netherlands, France, Chile and Australia, teaching English to children and/or studying. Because of her affinity with children, Helen loves being able to carry this on through her Reiki practice, connecting with mama and baby.
Vist www.Reiki-Joy.com for more info on Helen's practice.
