Many scientists already see embryonic stem cells as a miracle weapon against the common diseases of cancer, dementia or even diabetes. Because if you want to cure these diseases, you need a large number of stem cells. In adult stem cells, there is an immense problem right at this point: adult stem cells are far from happy to divide and are very difficult to reproduce.
The situation is different with the embryonic stem cells. They are by nature “programmed” to divide and therefore can be propagated almost indefinitely. The cell numbers required for a therapy are not a problem here. However, embryo stem cell cultivation in the test tube or bioreactor is still very time-consuming.
